The Engine Center, located in Kurtköy, Sabiha Gökçen Airport is one of the pioneer LEED Gold certificated buildings in Turkey. As the owner of the project, TEC (Turkish Engine Center) supported green building requirements to be incorporated into the project both in design and construction phases. The facility includes major green building design criteria such as the use of 20 percent recycled materials, production of electricity from renewable energy sources and reduction of overall energy load using solar tubes. Additionally, overall water use is anticipated to be reduced by 40 percent compared with conventional facility designs.
The construction started with site excavation under IMS supervision in January 2009 and after 10 months, project team started to countdown for the completion date. The project is described with these words by Emre Erdönmez, as a representive of the IMS team: “Our main motivation is ‘green building concept’. LEED Certificate is very new to Turkey; so focusing on innovative side of the project within very tight schedule was our main goal.” In this project, IMS delivers design management, tender management and construction management services.
